Short-form video for brands: what works on Reels, TikTok and Shorts

RESOURCES

Short vertical videos are now the first place many people discover a brand, an artist or an event. Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts reward content that feels native, fast and real. Here is what we have learned producing short-form content for brands and events.

1. Shoot for vertical from the start

Cropping a horizontal film into 9:16 often cuts off what matters. When we know a project will live on social media, we frame for vertical on set — or shoot wide enough to deliver both formats cleanly.

2. Win the first seconds

  • Open with the strongest image, not the logo. The crowd jumping, the reveal, the product in motion.

  • Make the promise clear: what will people see if they keep watching?

3. Design for silent viewing

A lot of people scroll with the sound off. Subtitles, on-screen text and strong visuals make sure your message lands either way — and the music becomes a bonus, not a requirement.

4. One shoot, many cuts

  • Plan several edits from one day of filming: a teaser, a full recap, a behind-the-scenes clip, a short testimonial.

  • Adapt for each platform. The same clip rarely performs equally everywhere — length, rhythm and text placement should follow each platform’s habits.

5. Keep it real

Over-produced content can feel like an ad. A mix of polished shots and authentic moments — laughs, preparation, the team at work — builds more trust than perfection alone.

6. Stay consistent

  • Post regularly rather than all at once.

  • Keep a recognisable look: colours, fonts, the way you open and close each video. For us, that is violet and gold.

7. Measure what matters

Views are only the start. Watch time, completion rate, saves, shares and messages tell you whether people actually cared — and what to make next.

In short

Short-form video is not about doing more; it is about doing it smarter: vertical, fast, readable without sound and true to your brand. We capture your vision.
